Season’s Greetings and best wishes for the Holiday season! We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and to provide a brief update on StockOpine's newsletter.
How it all started?
At the end of 2021, the idea for StockOpine was born during a gathering with friends who shared a common passion for investing.
The conversation somehow ended up like this. Why don’t we just begin analyze/examine stocks together, have a joint portfolio and share our work along this journey? Well, the passion for investments brought us together and that’s how we decided to launch StockOpine’s Newsletter.
Although the ride was not easy, given that Mr. Market took a 180 degree turn in 2022, our returns, while negative, were better than the market (more information on the next portfolio update release) whereas our newsletter subscribers exceeded +580. The plan was to reach +1,000 subscribers in 2022 but exceeding 500 is still a win and we will keep grinding so as to achieve our goals.
Who are we and what do we bring to the table?
As you might know we are a team of two people at the early 30s, with prior experience at Big4 accounting firms where we gained expertise in audit and financial advisory and we both hold professional qualifications (one holds the ACCA qualification and the other holds the ACA and CFA qualifications).
In our careers, we analyzed a large number of financial statements, either from an audit or financial analysis perspective, performed numerous valuations, developed a significant number of financial models and took financial / operational decisions considering the risks involved. We believe that the combination of our skills and the ability to work as a team gives us an edge.
We describe ourselves as long-term investors looking for businesses with sustainable competitive advantages that are expected to generate above average returns. To achieve this, we follow a bottom-up approach and perform fundamental analysis to identify companies that display attributes such as leaders in their industry or disruptors with superior business model, wide moat and strong financials. Valuation always matters.
Our promise for 2023
In the coming year, we plan to continue sharing our analysis for individual companies that pass our screening criteria on a regular basis (2 write-ups per month) and to provide our thoughts on earnings releases of the stocks we hold in our portfolio. We aim to continue providing valuable insights and analysis to our subscribers.
